Exercise...it's good for you!
It's been a while since I talked about running and that's because I'm not running. Heat and running are so difficult for me! I feel like I'm suffocating and my body temperatures feel extremely uncomfortable. However, this doesn't mean that I am not moving or exercising. I have been steady focused on conditioning my body for race season and I know come August, it's back to the pavement whether I like it or not. Autumn is my absolute favorite running season! You don't need all the warm weather gear and the weather is crisp and bearable. It will be here before I know it and I am too excited!
If there is one thing I've learned, it is that it's ok to take a break. Your body needs to recover from whatever it is you are doing. Even though I'm at the gym several days a week, I still have my scheduled recovery days and I am still utilizing the treadmill, but I mainly walk. Just like seasons change, our workouts need to change as well. I'm just glad for the various classes I take at the gym and all that I'm learning from the fitness instructors. But, running is going back onto my schedule.
My workouts have become my outlets. A time to focus on me and not think about anything but what I am working on at that moment. It really has helped me mentally because the endorphins that come afterwards are amazing. If you're not regularly exercising, I highly recommend you begin taking walks. That is exactly how I got started and I cannot believe the journey I am on now.
People tell me I'm glowing, if I am, it's because of how I am feeling. Exercise has truly changed my life. I have some goals, nothing too specific, but I continue to work towards what I have in mind and keep adding to the list. I am putting myself first and I think that is the direct correlation to my happiness. I finally found something that is not only good for me, but is also good to me. Who would have ever thought you could fall in love with exercise?! It is almost an addiction! I work my schedule around the gym and if anyone invites me out, I get my workout in at some point during the day so that I can go out and enjoy myself later.
All of this might seem small, petty or even uninteresting, but for me, this is LIFE! My happiness and sanity is everything to me and I have finally found something that is keeping me grounded, focused and happy. If only I could love running in the heat; it would make this phase so much easier. But, I will work with what I can until the temperatures cool down and I will get back out there. The pavement is my passion and I cannot wait to begin racing again...but I'm steady praying for cooler temps...steady praying!
